Berita, Otomotif138 Dilihat

Caterham is set to reveal Project V, an upcoming all-electric sports car, during the Goodwood Festival of Speed on July 12. Inspired by the lightweight and rear-wheel drive design of their iconic Seven roadster, which was originally based on the Lotus Seven, Project V marks a departure as a fully electric vehicle. The car is expected to potentially launch as early as late 2025.

Crafted by Caterham’s Chief Designer, Anthony Jannarelly, Project V was conceived as an electric vehicle from its inception. It features a rear-mounted 200-kilowatt motor, coupled with a 55-kWh USOC lithium-ion battery pack, providing 268 horsepower and an estimated range of 249 miles.

The car can recharge from 20 to 80 percent in just 15 minutes using a 150 kW DC rapid charger.

Staying true to Caterham’s minimalist principles, the Project V sports car embodies simplicity and agility, weighing around 1,190 kilograms (2,623 pounds).

Its carbon fiber and aluminum composite chassis provide a sturdy foundation, while the fully adjustable front and rear double-wishbone suspension and electrically assisted power steering enhance performance.

Caterham anticipates the coupe will achieve a sub-4.5-second 0-60 mph acceleration time and reach a top speed of 143 mph.

The show car version of Project V features a distinctive 2+1 seating arrangement, with the option for a 2+2 configuration. This layout prioritizes rear seat passenger comfort and provides enhanced versatility.

The dashboard exhibits a refreshing minimalistic design, showcasing two round digital gauges positioned in front of the steering wheel.

Located low on the center console, a series of rocker switches enables the driver to select between Normal, Sport, and Sprint modes, which adjust acceleration, suspension, and steering settings. The infotainment system is user-friendly and intuitive, featuring smartphone mirroring capabilities.

Bob Laishley, CEO of Caterham Cars Ltd, emphasizes that Project V extends beyond a mere design study or concept. The development team has diligently conducted engineering and production feasibility studies throughout the project’s progression.

Laishley states, “Project V fulfills our ambition to sustainably expand the company and venture into electrification concurrently.” He further adds that pending the next development phases and technical advancements, Project V could potentially be launched in late 2025 or early 2026.

Bob Laishley clarifies that the Project V coupe is not intended as a replacement for the existing Seven, but rather a complement to it.

Laishley expresses confidence that by preserving the fundamental values of Caterham, the Project V will resonate with the current customer base while also attracting new enthusiasts to the brand.

He explains, “By adopting a more practical coupe body style and leveraging the packaging advantages of an electric vehicle, this car seamlessly transitions from everyday errands to exhilarating Sunday morning drives.”
