On June 29, 2023, Hilton San Diego Gaslamp Quarter proudly announced the successful completion of its $22.5 million renovation project.

Texas-based award-winning design firm waldrop+nichols studio crafted a contemporary and relaxed California aesthetic, incorporating artistic and whimsical elements inspired by the early residents of the Gaslamp Quarter.

Presently, all 286 guest rooms, lofts, and suites are thoughtfully designed with modern furnishings, emphasizing comfort and convenience.

A new interior design and architecture have been implemented, establishing a laid-back and vibrant urban atmosphere. The highlight of the design is a stunning maple wood wall adorned with abstract, organic shapes and patterns, capturing the essence of California’s easygoing lifestyle.

Reggi Nichols, President, and Founding Partner at waldrop+nichols, explained, “By eliminating previous divisions, we have created a spacious and seamless environment where guests can work, socialize, dine, and enjoy cocktails while effortlessly connecting with the outdoors and relishing the incredible San Diego weather.”

Within the hotel, guests will discover elongated curved sofas, marble tabletops, and sustainable custom-made rattan and wicker seating. The carefully designed custom light fixtures, along with the harmonious blend of muted, neutral color tones and textures, contribute to a cozy and inviting atmosphere.

Francesca Ramirez, General Manager, expressed her enthusiasm, stating, “We are thrilled to present our stunning hotel in downtown San Diego. Our utmost excitement lies in extending our renowned heartfelt hospitality to our guests.

As the preferred choice for travelers seeking a blend of work and play, we eagerly anticipate hosting visitors near iconic attractions such as the San Diego Convention Center, Petco Park Stadium, Broadway San Diego, The Rady Shell at Jacobs Park, and much more.”

Experience a whimsical journey into “Rabbitville” at the enchanting Wild Hare Bar Garden, the hotel’s new bar and restaurant concept. Here, guests can indulge in Executive Chef Emiliano Sotelo’s delectable California cuisine, which highlights locally sourced meat, produce, and organic ingredients from the on-site herb garden on the starlit terrace.

The garden-inspired menu showcases a signature “rabbit dish” featuring roasted carrots, spiced goat cheese, and artisanal honey, as well as pan-fried chicken paillard with poblano butter, topped with fresh arugula lemon vinaigrette dressing, and more. Don’t miss out on the irresistible treat of a decadent carrot cake for dessert.

The beverage menu at Wild Hare Bar Garden features a delightful selection of rotating local craft beers, carefully curated wines, and expertly crafted cocktails, each playfully named with rabbit puns.

For example, the “Lucky Foot” cocktail combines local Cutwater Mezcal, Carrot Juice, Lime, and Jalapeno, while the “I’m All Ears” cocktail features ‘Trust Me’ Organic Vodka, Fresh Local Strawberries, Lemon Juice, Orgeat, and Bitters.

To complement tequila cocktails, biodegradable Agave straws are served. The beverage team is dedicated to sustainability, implementing a program that collects natural wine corks for recycling and re-corking, thus supporting carbon-negative material solutions.
